How to use Entry Mats for Hardwood Floors

An entry mat for hardwood floors protector can have different sizes, depending on the use you will make of it.

There are mats of just 50cm but put under office chairs to protect the parquet from casters.

Then there are 2-meter rugs that cover entire portions of the room, ideal for parties.

We especially recommend three types of solutions to use Entry Mats for Hardwood Floors

  • Floor protection mat at the entrance, to be used to take off any snowshoes encountered without damaging the floor. If you expect many guests for the holidays, we recommend that you combine the mat with one of the solutions that we will see in the last paragraph.
  • Large protective floor mat, to be placed in the dining area. Place it under the table and chairs, so as to prevent someone from damaging the parquet by making the chair crawl or dropping a glass of wine.
  • Stove or fireplace floor protector. As nice as it is to enjoy the warmth of the fire in winter, it always involves a certain degree of risk to your floors. Let’s explore why and how to solve the problem.

For some of the functions seen above, you don’t necessarily need a floor protection mat: a traditional rug may be enough.

All rugs muffle noise and act as a barrier to the floor, acting as protection. Remember, however, that traditional rugs have a primarily aesthetic function.

Parquet and laminate are materials that must be protected from direct heat. In fact, incandescent lapilli, and ash spill, is enough to leave an indelible mark.

The best thing would then be to design that area according to the fireplace or stove, creating a non-flammable rectangle in stone or granite.

Unfortunately, this is not always possible.

If the floor is wooden or – even worse! – of carpet, it takes very little to ruin it. There are closed fireplaces and stoves are equipped with protective glass.

Nonetheless, the constant heat still tends to “cook” the surrounding area.

Even without sudden sparks, the floor will deteriorate in a few years. A stove floor protector – pellet or wood – serves precisely to avoid this.

In such cases, we move away from PVC mats. A stove-specific floor protector is made of carbon and is at least 2 millimeters thick.

Depending on your needs, you can place it under the pellet stove or in front of the fireplace.
